Box Score 2 BAY MINETTE, Ala. - The Coastal Alabama - South Softball team fell in two games played against Chipola College (Fla.) at home on Mar. 3, seeing the overall record fall to 10-8 on the season in the process. The Indians of Chipola managed a 7-4 victory in game one, using a four-run seventh to steal the win from the Coyotes in the final inning. In game two, Chipola used a big fifth inning to earn a 15-11 win to sweep Coastal - South on the day. The 'Yotes are now 1-3 at home early in the 2026 campaign.
How It Happened
In game one, the Coyotes grabbed an early 3-1 lead after the first inning, adding an additional run in the second frame. Leading 4-1 entering the fifth, Chipola scratched off two more runs and made the game 4-3 heading into the final inning. In the seven, the Indians took control with a four-run frame, eventually winning by three to start the afternoon out strong as the visiting team.
Madison Griffith led Coastal's offense with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate, driving in a pair, while Riley Dunnam finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run, her first collegiate long ball. From the pitcher's circle, Anna Robin tossed the entire game for the Coyotes, allowing 11 hits, seven runs, and walking three. She added three strikeouts.
In the high-scoring nightcap, Chipola used a four-run second inning to take control of the game 4-1 early. The Coyotes answered with a six-run third, taking a two-run lead entering the middle part of the game. However, Chipola put together an impressive fifth inning, scoring eight runs in the frame alone, while adding three more in the sixth. The Coyotes avoided a run-rule loss with two runs in the sixth, while adding two more in the seventh, but the deficit was too large and Chipola earned the sweep in Bay Minette.
Madison Griffith continued her strong day at the plate, adding three more hits in game two and driving in one, while Sydni Carpenter finished 2-for-5 with her conference-leading 10th homer of the season. Carpenter also leads the ACCC in RBIs (35). Meanwhile, Riley Dunnam finished 0-for-1 at the dish in game two, working four base-on-balls in the process and scoring two runs. Brooke Cooper and Brianna Ryan joined Carpenter with a pair of hits, with Cooper collecting two RBIs, and nine-hole hitter Addy Stein finished 1-for-3 with a two-run single. Leadoff hitter Charlotte Lottinger notched two RBIs, recording a double in the defeat.
From the circle, the Coastal - South pitching staff struggled, with five pitchers combining for nine walks and only three strikeouts. Chipola's offense tallied 11 earned runs and 15 hits.
Non-Conference Play Continues Ahead
The Coyotes are set for an additional non-conference doubleheader next on the schedule, coming at home on Tuesday, Mar. 10 in Bay Minette, Ala. against Carl Sandberg College (Ill.). Tuesday's twin bill is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
