Box Score 4 VETERANS PARK | ALABASTER, Ala. - A remarkable run at the 2025 ACCC D-I Softball Championship Tournament came up short in the championship game for Coastal Alabama South Softball over the weekend, with the Coyotes finishing the tournament as the runners-up for the second time in three seasons. After opening the tourney with a loss on Thursday, May 8 to fall into the elimination bracket, the Coyotes bounced back and secured three wins alone on Friday, May 9 to advance to the title game. Coastal South then dropped the championship game to Southern Union (Ala.) on Saturday.
Coastal Alabama South Softball ends the 2025 campaign with a 39-24 overall record under head coach Mallory Radwitch following the conference tournament run. Caylee Johnson, Kailin Parker, and Brianna Ryan were all named to the ACCC D-I Softball All-Tournament Team following the tournament, and Sydni Carpenter tied the single-season program record in home runs with her 18th homer of the year during the weekend.Â

Weekend Recap
Following the tournament-opening loss, Coastal South played three-straight elimination games on Friday afternoon, totaling 25 innings played. The Coyotes opened Friday against Calhoun (Ala.), eventually winning 5-1 in 11 innings. Sydni Carpenter's record-tying grand slam in the 11th frame put the Yotes ahead and advanced Coastal South to an elimination contest against Wallace State - Hanceville (Ala.). Anna Griggs and Lauren Mounce combined for 11 innings of work from the pitcher's circle, with both pitchers allowing just two hits each. Gracie Toledano led the team with three hits at the plate.
Against Wallace State - Hanceville, the Yotes scored five unanswered runs late to secure a 5-2 win. The Lions opened the scoring with two runs in the fourth inning, but quickly saw the lead evaporate after Coastal South pushed across two runs next half inning. From there, the Coyotes added three more runs over the next two innings to secure the second consecutive elimination win. Four players recorded two hits each in the win for Coastal South, with Charlotte Lottinger leading the team with two RBIs. Caylee Johnson tossed a complete game, allowing just three hits and two unearned runs.
With a spot to the championship game on the line, Coastal South battled Northwest Shoals (Ala.) on Friday night - the same team that handed the Yotes their lone loss of the tournament. This time the Coyotes came out victorious, squeaking by to the title game with a 4-3 victory. Coastal South scored one run in the first inning, later adding three runs in the sixth to take a 4-0 lead. However, the Patriots sparked a rally in the sixth by scoring three runs. Anna Griggs then checked in on the rubber and picked up a huge save for the Coyotes, closing out the game with 1 2/3 innings from out of the bullpen. Abbie Davis led Coastal South with two RBIs as the Coyotes recorded just four hits in the win.Â
The next day, Coastal South needed two wins over Southern Union in the double-elimination tournament to earn the conference championship. Meanwhile, Southern Union was undefeated in postseason play and needed just one win to secure the conference title. The game was tied 2-2 after two innings, but the Bison ran away with the game after scoring two runs across the third, fourth, and fifth innings. The Coyotes eventually fell 8-2, being out-hit, 9-3.
2025 Season Closes
Coastal Alabama South Softball finishes the 2025 campaign one win shy of 40 wins during the year, winning seven of the last nine games played. The Coyotes managed a 23-10 record at home and 8-3 record on a neutral field. The 39 wins this season is the most for Coastal South in the last three seasons.Â
